Samantha Jane Scolamiero doesn't have letters after her name to prove she knows anything. She has practiced poetry as if it were medicine on retreat with poets like Tich Nhat Han, UU Minister Ric Masten and Standup Poet Jack McCarthy (who curiously dubbed her a "buzz saw") on Star Island. There she hand bound her first artist's book of poetry and photography "The Nameless Collection" which was purchased at auction by a group of UU patrons who donated it to Star Island's Vaughn library so it might sit alongside the volumes of Celia Thaxter, with whom she has only this bit of geography in common. Samantha performs almost every Wednesday on 'The Third Rail' at the Cantab Lounge in Cambridge. She was a member of the 2004 Boston Cantab National Poetry Slam Team. More poetry and photography may be found at her website samanthajane.smugmug.com

poem: july 2005
i am those
butter and eggs
wild things
struggling
up through the cracks
in the sidewalk
( chalk drawings
running in the rain
drawn then gone again )
water me
take me home
leave more of me
by the side of the road
so i can continue
to bloom
5 poems
The
impish muse
tugs at my
bedclothes
rattles the windows
heats up my sheets
won't let me sleep
until i give in
turn on the light
pick up a pen
and write
5 poems
before he
lets me
go back
to bed
