TO: VISITORS TO OUR POETRY WEB SITE

FROM: HARRY R. WILLIAMS, III, LIBRARY DIRECTOR

Welcome! When I began working as the new Library Director at the Brockton Public Library in March, 2004, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that our Saturday afternoon Brockton Library Poetry Series programs were "standing room only," filled with poets and poetry lovers.

I learned that this success was due in large part to the leadership of Philip Hasouris, Frank Miller, and Arnold C. Arnie Danielson.

Philip Hasouris referred to himself as "host" of the monthly series, but he served as coordinator, inspiration, and promoter. He is a published poet, a lifelong writer, and has been performing and presenting his work publicly for over a decade. His commitment to the Brockton Library Poetry Series comes from the heart.

I was most, and first, impressed with the power and elegance of Frank Miller¹s work. As I got to know him better, I learned to be even more impressed with Frank¹s commitment to poetry itself, and to bringing all poetry, not just his poetry, to the widest audience possible. This is especially exciting news in a major urban center such as Brockton, whose diversity is economic as well as cultural. Frank endeavors to reach out to, and attract, those who can present the finest literary experiences, and those who can benefit from them.

I have met a number of individuals who qualify to be called "Renaissance Man," but none so clearly as Arnie Danielson Disguised as a caterer of exceptional taste and elegance, he works diligently as collaborator and promoter of projects and initiatives with one common bond the aim to enhance the quality of life in our community. Arnie¹s skills and talents enhance the gustatory and the spiritual experiences of those attending our programs.

Together we seek to bring together poets, poetry lovers, and people who believe in the future of this community and to entice poets of major stature to come to Brockton. In the coming year we will double the number of programs, and add workshops to the mix.

I am sure you will enjoy the web site, and all of our programs. You are invited to "visit" often, and to be part of a glorious endeavor by joining us at the Brockton Library Poetry Series.
